Strategic Sourcing

Why Manufacture CNC Parts in China?

An honest, data-driven look at cost, quality, IP protection, and communication — and how to choose the right supplier model for your project.

Cost

The Real Cost Advantage — 40–60% Savings

Not because of cheap labor — because of supply chain density, machine utilization, and integrated logistics.

Supply Chain Density

Dongguan hosts the world's densest CNC ecosystem — material suppliers, heat treaters, platers, and tooling shops within 30 minutes. No shipping delays between processes.

Machine Utilization

Two-shift operations (16+ hours/day) spread fixed costs across more output. Western shops typically run single shifts, raising per-part overhead.

Material Pricing

China is the world's largest producer of aluminum, steel, and titanium. Domestic sourcing eliminates import duties and 30-day ocean freight on raw stock.

Indicative Cost Comparison — Aluminum 6061 Bracket, 500 pcs

Source Unit Price Total (500 pcs) Lead Time Notes
US Machine Shop $48–$65 $24,000–$32,500 3–4 weeks Single shift, higher labor cost
EU Machine Shop $52–$70 $26,000–$35,000 3–5 weeks Higher energy & overhead
Online Platform (Xometry/Protolabs) $38–$55 $19,000–$27,500 2–3 weeks Platform margin 20–35%
Unique Prototype Technology (Direct Factory) $22–$32 $11,000–$16,000 1–2 weeks No middleman margin

Prices are indicative for a 100×80×25mm bracket, anodized finish, ±0.05mm tolerance. Actual quotes vary by geometry, material, and quantity. Request a quote for your specific part.

Quality

Quality — Myths vs. Reality

"Made in China" no longer means "cheap." The right supplier delivers aerospace and medical-grade precision. Here's how to verify.

Myth

"Chinese shops can't hold tight tolerances."

Reality

Modern Chinese shops with 5-axis DMG MORI and Zeiss CMMs routinely hold ±0.005mm. The key is asking for capability reports and FAI documentation — not assuming.

Myth

"Quality is inconsistent between batches."

Reality

Inconsistency comes from uncontrolled processes, not geography. ISO 9001 certified shops with documented inspection, PPAP support, and SPC deliver consistent results — same as Western shops.

Myth

"Material certs are fake or unreliable."

Reality

Reputable suppliers provide EN 10204 3.1 certs traceable to mill. Third-party verification (SGS, Intertek) is available for ~$200 — worth it for critical parts.

Myth

"Communication is impossible across time zones."

Reality

A supplier with English-speaking engineers and a 12-hour overlap with US/EU business hours can be more responsive than a domestic shop running single shift.

IP Protection

How We Protect Your Intellectual Property

IP protection is a process, not a promise. Here are the concrete measures we take — and what you should ask any supplier to do.

Signed NDA Before Any File Sharing

We sign your NDA (or provide our standard mutual NDA in English) before receiving CAD files. Enforceable under Chinese contract law via our Hong Kong holding entity.

Physical & Digital Access Controls

Customer files are stored on isolated servers with role-based access. Production floor access is restricted — customer parts are not displayed in showrooms or marketing without written consent.

Employee Confidentiality Agreements

All engineers and operators sign confidentiality and non-compete agreements. Customer designs cannot be reused, shared, or shown to other customers.

Data Deletion on Request

Upon project completion or your written request, we delete all CAD files, drawings, and process documentation from our systems within 7 business days.

Legal Recourse via Hong Kong

Contracts are governed by Hong Kong law with arbitration via HKIAC. This provides a familiar legal framework for Western customers while remaining enforceable in mainland China.

Patent & Trademark Respect

We will not manufacture parts that infringe third-party patents. We assist with freedom-to-operate checks for novel designs and respect all customer trademarks.

Communication

Communication & Response SLAs

A supplier is only as good as their response time. Here's what you should expect — and what we commit to.

Inquiry Type Our Commitment Industry Average
Initial RFQ response Within 24 hours (business days) 2–5 days
DFM feedback on your design 1–2 business days 3–7 days
Formal quote with lead time 2–3 business days 5–10 days
Production status updates Weekly with photos On request only
Engineering change requests Same business day 2–4 days
Time zone coverage: Our engineering team works 9:00–18:00 China time (UTC+8), giving us a 12-hour overlap with US East Coast morning and full overlap with EU business hours.
Language: All quotes, drawings, FAI reports, and email correspondence are in English. Our engineers are fluent — no translation layer.
Channels: Email, phone, WhatsApp, WeChat, Microsoft Teams, or Slack Connect — whatever your team prefers.
Sourcing Models

Direct Factory vs. Trading Company vs. Platform

Three ways to source CNC parts from China. Each has trade-offs — pick the model that fits your project.

Factor Direct Factory (Us) Trading Company Online Platform
Price Lowest (no middleman) Medium (10–20% markup) Highest (20–35% platform fee)
Engineering Support Direct DFM feedback Limited (relayed) Automated / limited
Quality Control Full visibility Variable Platform-guaranteed
Lead Time Fastest Slower (extra handoff) Fast for prototypes
IP Protection Direct NDA Risk (multi-sourced) Platform T&Cs
Payment Security Direct contract Direct contract Escrow / platform guarantee
Best For Production & repeat orders One-off sourcing First prototype / low risk
